Why use our service

When you book a tourist taxi through an online platform, the biggest concern is reliability. Will the promised vehicle report in time? The reason for this uncertainty is because tourist transport is a highly unorganised sector in Sikkim. New Technology companies in Metro cities may develop a website and app, but ensuring service on the ground is a different challenge.

Shrey Cars, on the other hand, is neither a technology company nor new. We have been serving our guests with our own fleet of vehicles since 2002. There is no major software here, no payment gateway. You just pick up the phone and talk to us. We only assure you service when we have a spare vehicle. When all our vehicles are engaged, we do not take any booking. We are conservative, we are old school, and we assure service.

Note:-

1. According to local administrative rule, Sumo or Similar vehicles will not be allowed to enter the main town of Gangtok. Our service will be limited to dropping the tourist to the local stand. Tourist will have to hire a local taxi to reach their respective hotels.
2. During peak season such as Christmas, Diwali etc. there may be a surcharge on the above tariff which will be communicated to you by our executive.
3. The vehicle capacity is fixed, if your group consist of more people, please hire multiple vehicles from us. On the spot, we may not be able to arrange for extra vehicles.
4. Please carry limited number of luggage, that can be carried in the vehicle rooftop carrier, in case the quantity of luggage is very high, you may have to hire an additional vehicle for the same at extra cost.
5. Our vehicle will be reporting for service not earlier than 6 AM in the morning. In case of early arrival at NJP / Bagdogra please avail the restroom services available there.
6. In case of late arrival, please note that we do not recommend driving in the hills late in the night. If you are arriving in the evening, we will highly recommend staying in Siliguri for the night and starting the journey to Gangtok the next morning. Our vehicle will not start for Gangtok after 6 PM during summer months and after 5 PM during the winter, irrespective of flight/train delay.

The cheapest way to travel to Gangtok

The Cheapest mode of transport to Gangtok is by Bus. Both private and Government buses ply in this route. The largest fleet of buses belongs to SNT or Sikkim Nationalised Transport. These buses start from SNT stand on the hill cart road. The buses are not the most comfortable mode of tourist transport in the hills. In narrow hilly roads, the buses take considerably longer time and depending upon road traffic may take more than 6 hours to reach Gangtok from Siliguri. Tourists arriving in Bagdogra or NJP has to first travel to the Bus stand which is about 6 km from NJP and about 12 km from Bagdogra Airport.

The second Cheapest option is to travel by shared taxi. More shared taxis are available in the morning and as the day progresses the number of taxis available reduces. The shared taxis are a cheaper option if you are in a small group of two or three people.

Journey description from NJP / Bagdogra to Gangtok.

Both NJP and Bagdogra are rail station and airport in the plains of Bengal. As you get into our awaiting vehicle and start for Gangtok, you will have to go via Siliguri town, a burgeoning town which is the major city of the region. Till the time you cross Siliguri landscape is bland and not interesting. As soon as you cross the city limit you will enter Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary, pass through the dense forests of the sanctuary to reach Sevok where the plain meets the hills. Sevok is also the place where you will get to see Teesta, the lifeline of the Darjeeling Sikkim region. From here, Teesta will accompany you in your journey till you reach Singtam, not far from Gangtok. The total distance from Bagdogra airport to Gangtok is about 130 km. From NJP the distance is about it is about 125 km. The travel time may vary between 3.5 hours to 5 hours depending on present road condition, traffic on the way etc. During peak season sometimes the travel time may go up to 6 hours or more as well.
